You are invited to our Candidating Weekend

The Search Committee is proud to announce that we have unanimously selected—through prayer and mutual consent—The Rev. Matthew Perkins as our candidate for the ministry of our church.

Born and raised in Goshen, Connecticut, Matt graduated from The University of Connecticut with Bachelor of Arts in English in 1989. Matt’s first call to ministry came at Silver Lake Conference Center, serving several summers and 2 years full time as Chef and Assistant Director. Matt attended Lancaster Theological Seminary in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and received his Master of Divinity degree in 1994.

Formerly holding positions with A Christian Ministry in the National Parks and a pastorate in Ravena, New York, Matt has most recently served as Pastor of Decorah United Church of Christ in Decorah, Iowa, and as Philosophy and Ethics instructor and Northeast Iowa Community College. Matt’s wife, Amy, currently serves as the full-time Pastor of United Presbyterian Church in Shawnee. They live in Shawnee with their two children, Phoebe (12) and Zachary (10).

We hope you will make every effort to attend the Saturday evening social gathering where you will meet Matt and his family in a more informal setting as well as the Sunday evening worship service and Congregational Meeting. The Candidating Weekend event details are…

  • Saturday, November 19, 7:00pm – A relaxed relaxed social gathering at Scott Love and Larry Cassil’s home (2614 NW 42nd St, 73112), with hors d’oeuvre that will allow you to participate in this opportunity to become acquainted with Rev. Perkins and his family.
  • Sunday, November 20, 3:30pm – Meet & Greet, an alternative time before our worship service for you to become acquainted with Rev. Perkins and his family.
  • Sunday, November 20, 6:00pm – Rev. Perkins will conduct the worship service. Following the service, a Congregational Meeting will be held to hear a detailed report from the Search Committee and the Church Officers, discuss the terms of the Call Agreement, and vote on the recommendation to call Rev. Matthew Perkins as our new pastor. Assuming a positive vote, it is our hope that Pastor Matt will start with us on November 27, 2011.

Join us as we begin this new chapter in the life of our church and continue reclaiming a Christianity of extravagant grace, radical inclusion, and relentless compassion.
