A workshop entitled “Homosexuality and Scriptures” will be held on Sunday, July 24th, from 2 to 4 pm, at Oklahoma City’s Church of the Open Arms, 3131 N. Pennsylvania Ave. The event is free and open to the public. Rev. Dr. Kathy McCallie will lead the workshop.
Dr. McCallie holds a Masters in Divinity from Southern Methodist University and a PhD in Political Science from the University of Oklahoma. “Homosexuality is neither sickness nor sin, and contemporary theologians teaching about sexual orientation have a liberating message,” Dr. McCallie said. “We should take the Bible seriously, but not literally, and stop using it to scapegoat persons that may be gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgendered.”
Church of the Open Arms, founded in 1997, is an open and affirming member church in the United Church of Christ.
