Welcome Pastor Kayla

PastorKaylaIt is with great joy for us to announce that on December 13, 2015, Cathedral of Hope OKC and Church of the Open Arms called Rev. Kayla Bonewell as our new pastor. Cathedral of Hope and Church of the Open Arms are venturing into new territory as we call Pastor Kayla to a dual charge position, in which she will pastor both congregations. This is something that has never been done in the United Church of Christ and was an idea that was fostered by Edith Guffey, Conference Minister of the Kansas Oklahoma Conference of the United Church of Christ. We are very proud and excited to be on the forefront of this new idea.

Rev. Kayla Jean Bonewell was born in Oklahoma City and raised a United Methodist. She earned a BA in Religion from Oklahoma City University (2002), a Master of Liberal Arts from Naropa University (2004), and a Master of Divinity from Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley, California (2008). Ordained in the United Church of Christ (2010), Kayla has ministry experience as a hospital chaplain, campus minister, social justice activist, youth minister, and associate pastor. Her personal mission statement is “To empower community, through experiences of the divine, to lead lives of deep meaning, while cultivating health, peace, and beauty in our world.” She is passionate about relevant worship, spiritual growth, and community engagement. Kayla is a member of the inaugural class of the UCC’s “Next Generation Leadership Initiative,” a 20-year focus on energizing and sustaining younger, emerging UCC local church pastors. She lives with her sweetie Dana Johnson, who is an artist, and their beloved pups, Jack and Rascal.

We look forward to the exciting future that is upon us!

Peace and Blessings.
