Greetings from Pastor Matt

Greetings from Shawnee!

Greetings to all!  As we begin our journey together, I’m sitting in a Coffee Shop, enjoy a cup of Earl Grey tea, figuring out trying to figure out with great fear and trepidation, how the write for the blog and/or The Comma.  Consider this piece a beginning for both projects.  Over our time together, I hope these writings will help you feel more a part of our faith journey together.

As we begin our journey together, I’d like to consider my focus for a moment.  My primary focus as a pastor is on ministry, trying to pastor to people where they are on life’s journey.  Above everything else, I am a pastor.  I want to know how you are doing.  I want to hear how your faith life is going.  I want to help you on your faith journey.  That means I want to offer opportunities for you to grow in faith.  I’m trying to offer several opportunities for growth this month apart from worship, and then again beginning in January.  I will be in City an average of 3 days per week, and certainly enjoy meeting with people, just to offer a time of visitation and care.

I will also offer classes, beginning in January, on a variety of topics, such as spirituality, The United Church of Christ, God and Human Sexuality, Ethics, and Covenant Relationships.  The church will be providing office space, so that people can come and find me in an office and we can visit there as well.  I will even be able to be reached by the Cathedral of Hope cell phone, which should be available shortly.

As we venture into our time together, I would ask just one thing of you.  Please pray for us.  Pray that we can come together in the love that God has shown for us through Jesus Christ.  It is in the Peace of Christ, which passes all understanding, that we can live, love, and grow as a church.

Whether you are gay or straight, male or female, young or old, rich or poor, regardless of ethnic background, you are welcome to join us on the journey of faith.  Come be a part of Cathedral of Hope.

Yours in Christ,
