Cathedral of Hope OKC

Over this past two weeks, two people in our congregation have passed away. In each in case, I have needed to work in cooperation with Mayflower UCC and Church of the Open Arms UCC to best serve the needs of family and friends. I am very pleased to have such fantastic colleagues in ministry. I know I can continue in cooperation with these and other churches for years to come. I continue to work with partner churches on the recovery efforts in Moore, Shawnee and other areas affected by the recent storms.

A strong relationship with other churches is important, but so are our relationships with each other at church. We need worship, mission, education and fellowship opportunities to strengthen our ties to one another as a church. If a person only does one thing (worship, for example) that person may feel connected to church, but only to a certain extent. Where we do best is when we fully engage in church, and work together on issues that confront us.

Let’s keep working together to be a stronger body of Christ.

An evening with Truth Wins Out’s Wayne Besen

This will be a lively discussion as Besen demonstrates the dangers of “reparative” therapy and introduces video interviews with leading experts who clarify once and for all that it is simply impossible to change a person’s sexual orientation.

This is an effort to counteract a “convention” of proponents of such dangerous therapy. Called Restoring Hope 2013: The Truth that Transforms, this convention is anything but truthful. Besen will deconstruct their lies so that you, your family, and friends have all of the tools you need to help stop this potentially deadly therapy.

Wayne Besen is the world’s foremost authority on the so-called ex-gay movement. He has literally written the book that outs this movement for what it is: A collection of snake oil salesmen who prey on LGBT people and their families. The results are two-fold: Money lining the pockets of the “therapists” and families left more broken than before. Besen’s organization, Truth Wins Out, has gained international attention for its efforts to expose the so-called ex-gay movement for what it is: A pack of lies.

This is a free event and open to everyone.
